The Center for Optics and Photonics at the University of Concepción, CEFOP, is a research center of excellence, unique in Chile, created in 2009 following the award of the funding provided by the Basal Financing Program of CONICYT, for a period of ten years.
CEFOP brings together a consolidated group of physicists and engineers that develop basic and applied research in the areas of Optical Instrumentation and Teledetection Technologies, Optics and Quantum Information, Opto-electronics, Non-destructive Material Characterization, Non-linear Optics and Digital Imaging Processing.
It is an interdisciplinary center, with collaboration and complementarity between its areas, which involve theoretical and experimental aspects of basic research with applied research and technological development, and training of undergraduate and graduate students.
Its main objectives are the growth of the research in the fields of Optics and Photonics in Chile, and collaboration with industry to implement technology development and transfer programs of high social and economic impact.
