CEFOP has established strategic alliances with Chilean Air Force and the European consortium EADS-Astrium, responsible for building our first Satellite System for Earth Observation (SSOT). In this project the Center has assumed the role of scientific advisor of the Government  in the design, selection and implementation of the system, that should be fully operational during 2011 and which applications are within the scope of scientific research of the Center.
In this regard, EADS-Astrium and CEFOP collaborate on the development of airborne instruments for terrestrial observation oriented to chilean needs. This is an ambitious goal that requires the best efforts of the members of CEFOP and allows the inclusión of technological development as an important player in our economic future.
Due to the increase in the available data with greatly reduced costs associated, the SSOT will significantly strengthened the area of remote sensing, providing inside information for areas such as mining, agriculture, fishing and defense, among others.
