It’s a great pleasure to welcome you to the Center for Optics and Photonics, CEFOP, from the Universidad de Concepción. The Center was approved in March 2009, in the second call of the Basal Financing Program for Scientific and Technological Centers of Excellence, by the Chilean government trough CONICYT, and its research and developments activities as Center began formally in October 9, 2009.
The formation of this Center and the Basal Financing Program as a whole, is responding to the critical need for a country wishing to move forward to be part of globalization and become a knowledge-based society, where CEFOP becomes a factor in the competitiveness of the country through scientific knowledge and technological development and transfer of elements to strength the national industry.
To achieve the above objectives, CEFOP is conceived as a meeting place for physicists and engineers working in Optics and Photonics. Its main purpose is the development of permanent collaborative research capabilities between its members, involving experimental and theoretical researchers working in Quantum Optics, Quantum Information, Non-linear Optics, Optical Instrumentation, Digital Imaging Processing, Opto-electronics, Remote Sensing, and Nondestructive Material Characterization.
The members of CEFOP have experience in development and technology transfer, especially in the areas of Opto-electronics and Satellite Remote Sensing. Moreover, the Center has experience in scientific and technical advisory, required from the Chilean government to manage different situations of national relevance.
During our first year of operation, we have reinforced the experimental and theoretical research in fundamental studies, orienting and strengthening applied researches capabilities towards specific needs of Chilean industrial clusters.
We invite you to explore our website and learn on the specific goals of our research and development lines.
