Forestal Celco S.A. has commissioned to CEFOP the design, development and deployment of geo referenced telecommunication systems for industrial safety in forest harvesting operations, following the results of the advice made between February and April this year at the same company, called "Technical and economic evaluation of technological solutions in reducing occupational hazards in forest harvesting operations". By introducing this technology, the company seeks to reduce its historical accident rates produced in the forest harvesting chores and opts for the development of a technological tool, unavailable in the market. The first phase, carried out between June and August 2010, consisted on the study of the development of a security system prototype for tower forest harvesting tasks and the implementation of field tests using a real scenario operation. The positive results achieved have allowed the start of the execution of a second stage since november, where Forestal Arauco S.A., aims to scale the prototype for a whole forest harvesting task, with a total project amount of $ 116,000,000 and duration of seven months, of which $83.000.000 are financed by the industry. The main areas of engineering addressed in this project, include aspects of telecommunications, satellite positioning, computer and digital electronics, and also aspects of industrial design for the proper encapsulation of the components. , Universidad de Concepción, Optical Instrumentation and Teledetection Technologies, 2010-06-01
