About Concepcion

Located at 510 km south Santiago, Concepción is the capital of the province of the same  name at the last region of the central zone of Chile, Bío-Bío.

With a population of the order of 220.000 inhabitants, this city is located in the south extreme of South America, 36º 46′ 22″ S - 73º 03′ 47″ W, 12 meters over the sea.

Limited by north by cities that has shoreline as Hualpén, Talcahuano and Penco. By south it is limited by the cities of Chiguayante and Hualqui. Limited by east with Florida and limited by west with Bío Bío river and the city of San Pedro de la Paz.

Concepción has tempered climate, influenced by the sea. The mean winter temperature is 8º C, and in the summer is 17º C. Because of its latitud and proximity of Pacific Ocean, the temperature oscillations are always moderate.

Founded at 1550, the city of Concepción is an important economical and demografic center, being a relevant historical, social and cultural place in Chile. Moreover, it is considered the second financial, demografic, administrative, political and commercial city of this country.

Concepción is also important for superior education. Among universities, profesional institutes and centers for techinical formation, it has almost 30 nucleus of superior studies, constituting an important place for scientific and technological investigations in several areas.

Some places interesting to know in Concepción include: The University of Concepcion (UdeC), the Gallery of Art  front to Peru Square (photo by night), Parque Ecuador, Plaza de la Independencia,  Palacio de Tribunales, The Museums of History and Natural History, The Bio-Bio river and “Lenga”, fishing village with excellent restaurants to eat typical food from the sea.
