About CEFOP

The Center for Optics and Photonics (CEFOP) of Universidad de Concepción is a scientific and technological center sponsored by Programa de Financiamento Basal of Comisión Nacional de Investigación científica y Tecnológica (CONYCIT).

CEFOP is an interdisciplinary center, which encourage the continued collaboration of research in optics and photonics. Involving basic and technological researchs the center also invest in the training of undergraduate and graduate students in order to promote the formation of people with advanced knowledge in those areas.

CEFOP is a project that born as an alliance between various research groups at Univemrsidad de Concepción and it had its roots launched five years ago from a group of physicists and engineers which began a dri ven program aiming to the quality improvement and an increase in the number of lines of research in optics and photonics in Chile.

The research activities include Fundamentals of Quantum Mechanics, Quantum Optics and Quantum Information, Opto-electronics, Optical Material Characterization, Remote Sensing and Digital Imaging Processing. Aplication researchs include satellite and airborne technologies, optical sensors and Haptic Technology in Medicine and Education. All this is accomplished from an initiative that brings together a wide range of experimental facilities in the cited areas above.
