The aim of this work was to set up and evaluate dual-beam thermal lens spectroscopy (TLS) for analytical application in the quantitative determination of lead. The method is based on lead(II) colorimetric reaction with 2-(2′-Thiazolylazo)-p-cresol (TAC) in ethanolic buffered (pH 7) solution. The conditions for the analytical procedure were optimized. The thermal-lens calibration is linear over the range 101.3–2070 ng L− 1 and the limit of detection (LOD) of lead is 30.4 ng L− 1. The relative standard deviation (R.S.D.) of the method for the calibration is < 5%. This article introduces preliminary studies for determining lead(II) in water samples and is applicable to environmental studies.
